I prefer the sharpness of my SyncMaster to all the CRTs I have. Every time I use a CRT for a while and then go back to the LCD, it's like "holy fuck, this looks nice". There's also the health benefits of not looking at something constantly strobing and emitting all sorts of cool rays at you.
Colour representation and contrast ratio is still much better on a CRT though.

Is there an affordable 24" monitor that supports 24 000 000 colours?

Most modern LCD monitors handle colour representation pretty well. I still trust a CRT more for sensitive colour correction work in still or motion photography though.
Most 24" LCDs are around $400.
