Your points are good and valid, if not off topic a bit. I do not think I will be upgrading this computer, though. Perhaps the next one.
I'm curious as to what HP does to earn this reputation, though. I've never owned anything other than a printer from them, so am rather curious. Other than all the crap that came installed with my dad's HP (Something like 50 startup programs and non-MS services), it seems alright.

That fucking circle.
Laptops are a different scenario. Due to the compromises necessary in slimming down a computer, there are few standards to follow and each OEM is going to use their own approach to it. Furthermore, although it is possible to build a laptop yourself, it is a very involved process that isn't guaranteed.

With cardboard.

I am sure that upgrading a laptop is still more profitable in the end, though, no?
Also you never answered my inquery regarding HP.

lol I don't know if that is directed at me or Tyler. I will assume it was me.
I can never sit behind an HP computer without getting pissed off every 10 seconds. The computers look like shit, they are built like shit, and overall design is shitty.
I don't really know what you mean by the reputation though. So many people go to HP for some reason. I don't understand it.

People have been flocking to HP because Dell's awful reputation has finally taken a toll on their sales. Even though Dell has improved from the days of exploding laptops and non-English customer service, it is too late to save their image.
They suffer a similar fate as Microsoft.
Unlike Microsoft, however, the alternatives to Dell are a lot worse.

okok let's get out of this subject. I have a question about the video card: I checked out the clock speeds on the internets, and saw that the 8600 GTS has a core clock of 675 MHz, with a 1000 MHz memory clock. My 7800 GS' core is clocked @425 MHz or something, along with a 650 memory clock. Is this a big speed improvement, or are these numbers just lies?

You can't compare clock frequencies of different cards, especially in different generations. The 8600 GT and GTS have higher clocks than the 7800 GS, but they also have 32 stream processors. Stream processors are much more versatile and cheaper to produce, but aren't as fast as the old pixel pipelines, hence why the high-end cards have so goddamn many of them. In the end, the card should be pretty similar in performance. Also, lmfao at the board tracing.

Maybe there's some sort of thermal advantage to it, since that part is normally under the heatsink.
It looks funny though.

The part you put the thermal paste is relatively small. It's like a 1x1 cm square.
I think I should AS5 the 7800 GS before I sell it, as Andy is retarded and never dusts out his computer. You should see his CPU heatsink XD. It looks like someone took the fan off, puked on it and put it back on.
