i took a bit to reading about Bernie's early life out of curiosity. funnily enough it's exactly what you would expect: he was pretty much an unemployed bum throughout most of his 20s, almost never paid his bills, scraped by on random jobs he could find until he finally got elected mayor when he was 40.
and between that he was obsessively writing articles for the far-left magazines, protesting wherever he could and getting hosed down and arrested with black people at MLK marches
Sanders rented a small brick duplex at 295 1/2 Maple Street that was filled with not much furniture and not much food in the fridge but stacks of checked-out library books and scribbled-on legal pads.
"Pretty sparse," Gene Bergman, an old friend, said about the apartment.
"Stark and dark," said Darcy Troville, a fellow Liberty Unionite who lived around the corner and shared with Sanders homemade jellies and jams.
"The electricity was turned off a lot," Barnett said. "I remember him running an extension cord down to the basement. He couldn't pay his bills."
He worked some as a carpenter, although "he was a shitty carpenter," [Liberty Union party member John] Bloch told me. "His carpentry," [Liberty Union member Danny] Morrisseau said, "was not going to support him, and didn't."
He worked as a freelance writer, putting intermittent pieces in the low-budget Vermont Freeman, a Burlington alternative weekly called the Vanguard Press and a glossy, state-supported magazine called Vermont Life.
His writing wasn't a living. The Vanguard paid as little as the rest. "It would've been not more than 50 bucks," said Greg Guma, a former editor. Vermont Life? "Our rate was 10 cents a word," said Brian Vachon, a former editor.
"He was always poor," Sandy Baird, another old friend, told me in Burlington.
"Virtually unemployed," said Nelson, the political science professor at the University of Vermont.
"Just one step above hand to mouth," said Terry Bouricius, who was involved with Liberty Union, served at times as a de facto campaign manager for Sanders and at one point crashed for a couple months on his couch.
Liberty Union "people found it difficult to support themselves while engaging in full-time political work," Michael Parenti, one of those people, wrote in the Massachusetts Review in the summer of 1975. "Some held jobs that allowed free time for campaign activities, while others lived off unemployment insurance."
"His work was to be a politician," Guma said. "He put everything into what he was doing."
Also apparently he honeymooned in the USSR and wanted to name Burlington's baseball team the "Vermont Reds" when he was mayor, I wonder why.
Sanders, 32, cares little what 'image' he conveys — and that's part of his image of being a bit rumpled and unshorn. He's on unemployment compensation right now, having worked for the Bread & Law Task Force, as a free-lance writer, and as a carpenter in the Burlington area. But the thing he likes best, and excels at, is 'talking the issues,' and he doesn't mind repeating himself sometimes."
basically Bernie is that one hipster friend you have who's never had a "real" job, lives off welfare, is obsessed with social justice and communism, probably smells like he hasn't showered in days, has torn up old clothes and lives in a basement with candles and the lights off, writing about how the government is corrupted. except somehow he managed to live long enough to run for President. no wonder the underemployed and overeducated youth of today love him. I also like the fact that his entire campaign is him literally asking everyone to give him money.
Bernie vs Donald would literally be a billionaire, hardcore capitalistic isolationist vs an unemployed communist who basically wants to make everything free and make everyone a citizen. greatest election ever, truly my friends we've lived to see America reach a pivoting point.
well boys the secret is out. and the secret is that Trump girls are generally a lot hotter than the Bernie girls. makes me want to go to a Trump rally tbh.
here's one for you Tyler
boy i wish we had a 2nd amendment around here
there's also the fact that Ivanka and Tiffany totally blow Malia and Sasha out of the water
although to be fair, it wouldn't be right to say ALL the Bernie girls are hideous landwhales who don't shave, only a sizable (lol) portion of them.

MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
I believe that Donald actually has current highest rate of new followers every day, every day he gains at least 20k followers. A few days ago he hit 7.1m, today he's at 7.25m! many more likes, followers and retweets than Hillary and Bernie!
