I got my pair of Beyerdynamic DT 250-80s from Long & McQuade. They're a pretty slick store, although you won't be finding any deals there. There's also Bay Bloor Radio, which will have a much larger selection, but they're in Toronto. As far as the headphones themselves go, my pair are pretty damn awesome and set me back about $180. There's the Sennheiser HD 280 Pros, which can apparently be had for $100 USD, but they won't quite perform to the ability of my pair. They are not awful by any means though, and should probably blow away anything else you've listened to. Other options include the Beyerdynamic DT 660s and DT 860s, but the ergonomics seem a little too flat to be all that comfortable. They do sound awesome though. The DT 880s are more or less Beyerdynamic's flagship headphones, but the high impedance will make them pretty useless without an amplifier. I guess it's worth mentioning my old pair of Sony MDR-V600s. They were pretty good headphones, but they broke on me. I managed to glue that shit back together, but there's still no padding left to speak of. Nevertheless, they were pretty good headphones sonically, although the lack of padding on mine has constituted a rather bright sound to them. The best way to really gauge anything is to go and listen to a bunch of them. My preference was towards flat monitoring headphones (I like a lot of things flat), so I went with the DT 250-80s. If you want emphasized bass or brightened treble, there are other headphones that do this tastefully.
