ITT all discussions of chamber music, be it classical artists such as Wolfgang Amadeus and Johann Sebastian, or more modern musicians who create chamber music (this could be video game music, music used in movies, or just some bizarre avant-garde/noise/ambient shit that you heard on some album).
Here are some things I think are pretty awesome.
Aphex Twin
Girl/Boy Song
This isn't the best video for the song, but I have always loved this song because it mixes drill & bass with chamber music and violins so seemlessly, probably one of Richard's best songs in my opinion.
Johann Sebastian Bach
Tocatta and Fugue in D Minor
This video is very cool because it so clearly shows how structured the composition is, even though it is basically one huge organ solo.
Pachelbel
Canon in D Major
Pretty much everyone knows this song, never gets old.
But of course if you don't like violins, there is always the adorable Vocaloid version
Apocalyptica
Master of Puppets
Apocalyptica are pretty badass because they prove that metal and chamber music are hardly incompatible, but rather that they can be extremely similar.
James Horner
A Kaleidoscope of Mathematics
I love this song because it was used perfectly in 'A Beautiful Mind' to contrast with the thought processes of John Forbes Nash; I also love the AMV because it uses scenery from Mushishi which fits the context very well.
Gris from Quebec
La Dryade
This is a nice song on the whole, very calming; I owe it to Luther for showing me this.
Kumiko Noma
Lilium
Probably the only anime theme song I can think of that is sung in Latin
Joe Hisaichi
Umi no Mieru Machi (Sight of the Ocean Town)
Not the best sound quality, but this is my favourite song from Kiki's Delivery Service by far.
Joe Hisaichi
The Merry Go Round of Life
Main theme of Howl's Moving Castle, and fairly well performed although with low volume.
Nobuo Uematsu
Dancing Mad
Probably my favourite Final Fantasy song. This is only the 4th part of the song, the whole song is over 17 minutes, Wotaken just decided to use the 4th part in this video of his (because it is the best). You should definitely listen to it in its entirety if you can find it, I might megaupload or rapidshit some if anybody wants a metal version, the original version, or an orchestrated version.
Nobuo Uematsu
One Winged Angel
This comes pretty damn close to being the first, but it is overshadowed by Dancing Mad to me, you might like this one more.
Clint Mansell
Requiem for a Dream
Originally used in Requiem for a Dream, which was a film about drug addiction and its aftereffects, this song was later used in The Two Towers soundtrack, which seemingly most people remember it from despite Requiem for a Dream having been made several years earlier.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Symphony No. 40 1st Movement
It would be a travesty for this thread not to have some Mozart in it.
That's all I can think of for now, if you have anything else to comment or request, or just to show another song you like, go right ahead.
