You did state that it is correct, after I pointed that out.
In your first statement you thought that I had meant "farewell", and that my use of "fare well" was a mistake. This implies that you were, at the time, unaware that "fare well" is a correct statement, hence the need to correct it.
Edit: I saw your nice big reply and responded to it anyways.
Edit: Also, that reply wasn't big.
