I would much prefer a TrackPoint over a mouse. It would keep my hands on the keyboard at all times. A mouse makes me take my hands off. A trackpad is a small movement downward if I need more than just my thumb, so it's alright, but a mouse requires the blatant removal of my left hand from the typing surface.
With both, the trackpad would serve the sole purpose of scrolling.
Digitizers are also interesting to use as mice, but Jasmin's is pretty sloppy.
