Two or three times a day seems more accurate.

1. Curtis repeatedly unplugs it.
2. The server application isn't the most stable thing in the world.
If you're turned on for more than 10 hours, I'd call a hospital.

What the hell does a splitter solve?
Instances of downtime are about 1.4 times per day, primarily during the night where I actually sleep at a normal time.

... If curtis unplugs the cord so often, you could get a splitter to plug into the wall. That way, he can plug in random shit without having the unplug the server, genius.

Why the hell is minecraft so everything-intensive?

There's no backface culling for the client, and it's pretty bandwidth intensive to sync 4,194,304 blocks from the server to a new client.
