It's only pro in the hands of someone who knows how to use it properly.

If you do, it'll turn out pretty well like Tori no Uta - that is, as human as the program as you can get. If not, it'll turn out like Lucky Star where it sounds like my bowels are erupting in a fiery mess after eating Mexican food and having food poisoning.

As for the Microsoft Sam comment, it only makes sense. A Japanese voice synthesizer would logically be easier to make than an English one, since the language is entirely based on a defined set of pronunciations without exception.

Synthesizing "wa, za, ra, zen" etc. is probably much easier than getting your program to understand that "ti" can be "shi" as in "caption", or "tih" as in "notify".
