I'd like to address the obvious elephant in the room here. XF is dead, and we all know exactly why. Don't even try to tell me you don't know what's up. No one has been willing to bring this up since 2009, but I feel it's time to speak. It's no secret to anyone, but we're all trying to cover it up because no one wants to admit it's their fault. I fear I'm too late in mentioning this though, as XF may be too dead to bring back.
The real reason why XF died has nothing to do with people "losing interest". This board isn't simply "too old". People didn't just "forget" about it. No one wanted it to die, but it was inevitable. Something happened that changed XF drastically, with catastrophic consequences. Don't give me that look. You know exactly what I'm talking about.
It's no secret to anyone that XF has been on a downward spiral since 2009. The posting rate has been going down dramatically since that fateful day. Tyler will never reach 35,000 posts. I've been on Cheesemaster V for years. Some of the smaller accounts have simply ceased posting, as if they never even existed in the first place. The number of active members kept dropping until just the few of us left today were the only ones ever online.
Sure, we had a few members come back from inactivity to make a post or two. But did they stay? I didn't think so. Why do you think that is? We all know exactly why, but no one is willing to bring it to anyone else's attention. Why did no one bring this up earlier? Did we all want XF to die a slow, painful death? I think deep down inside, all of us are responsible for this.
That's right. We killed XF. We did. We, the users of this dear forum, together caused its downfall. Every single one of us did this. I'm sorry for not bringing this up earlier, but no one else did either. It's almost as if we all wanted this to happen. And now XF is too far gone. We will never return to the former glory days of this forum. We're stuck with one or two posts a week, maybe even a month. In a year, none of us may even be here, not even Tyler.
And now, I present to you, the real reason for XF's death. I feel I shouldn't even need to mention it, as it has been staring us right in the face for years. XF died because we let it die. We let Tyler change the "10 most recent posts" page to "20 most recent posts". The forum died with Poll of the Moment CLXV. XF had a healthy user count with several posts per day before then. After that change? A slow decline in activity until it reached the sorry state it's in now.
One less vote could have completely changed the outcome. If one person hadn't voted for 20, there would have been a tie, or perhaps they could have even turned the advantage to 16,400. That's it. One vote killed the forum. I hope you're happy, whoever you are. You knew this would happen. You got what you wanted. But what's in the past is done now. I'm mostly disappointed in everyone for letting Tyler go through with this and not doing anything about it after the fact.
What can we do now? Go back to 10? No, I don't think so. It's too late. XF is dead and has been since 2009. We're all responsible for this. No one spoke up. It's simply too late. I hope you're happy, XF, or at least what's left of it. Maybe by the time I post this, everyone will be gone. But if there is anyone out there, never forget that this is what happened, and don't let it happen to you again on whatever future message boards you post on.
