As neat as the cube thing is, I never use it in Ubuntu. I've found it to be as useless as Flip 3D.
On an unrelated note, I assume your computer issues have been resolved?

Even with Compiz configured the way I like it, my LCD feels too big for virtual desktops to be of much real use.
