Well most of you probably already knew that Norton absorbs but let me tell you a story...
Last night the shit hit the fan, I'm not sure why, but it did. My computer restarted around 4 times in a row due to extreme load on the CPU (or so I assume). This is extremely irritating because restarting and logging in and getting my PC to function properly takes around 7 FUCKING MINUTES. So I went to sleep and gave up after the reboot fiesta.
Once I woke up, the first thing I did was check my processes to see what was taking up all of my fucking CPU. Lo' and behold god damn Norton and it's shit-battalion of 10 processes were raping my PC. I went to uninstall it, but NO, Norton doesn't have an uninstallation option. I had to download the removal tool from their website. It doesn't want to leave.
So, once I removed that faggot Norton with their special tool, I had to do one final restart... Logging in took around 30 seconds. THIRTY SECONDS. It used to take around 5 minutes for my PC to get working. I used to have around 42 processes running, how many do I have now? Currently 32. NORTON absorbS HUGE COCK JESUS CHRIST RANT RANT RANT
I've installed avast! and now my PC is working better than it has in months. Fuck.
tl;dr version: norton is bad and silked my pc, but i fixed it

Epic.
It's worth noting that heavy CPU load should not result in a sudden restart unless the NT kernel panics or your physical hardware gives in. In the case of the latter, your computer would probably not boot up. Most likely, Norton's army of IRQ death was probably too much for Windows XP to handle, and since Microsoft is so amazing at avoiding these types of problems, XP automatically hard reboots the computer for the sake of safety.
Norton still absorbs total cock though. I personally use AVG Free, but avast! seems pretty capable.

God damn it. I'm using Windows Live Onecare and it only uses one process. Mcafee used to be alright, but now they're running a new process for every different section of the virus scanner. The update agent, firewall, the constant bullshit scan etc... It's turning into Norton, which is just fucking terrible. AVG and Onecare are the only things I seem to be trusting nowadays. in fact, I wouldn't even be using antivirus software if Vista wouldn't stop bitching about me not having it. Same thing with UAC.

I wouldn't even be using antivirus software if Vista wouldn't stop bitching about me not having it. Same thing with UAC. TURN IT OFF AND PLACE APPROPRIATE USER PERMISSIONSJesus Christ, XP doesn't have all that bullshit and yet I can still easily prevent Curtis from raping the Blackbox.
