I'd just like to state, for the record, that this is the funniest anime ever made. In fact, it's one of the funniest shows ever broadcast on television, period. In terms of anime, Fumoffu is a close second and Minami-ke is up there, but there is something entirely special about Excel Saga. Even if you never watch anime, you should watch this show. It has universal appeal.

This is a show where at the beginning of every episode, the creator of the manga itself consents to having his work mutilated into a completely different genre.
A show where the afroed director of the show itself is in every episode getting into drunken antics and accidentally encountering his own protagonists.
This is the actual guy who directed the show by the way:
A show with a girl who accidentally dies multiple times an episode because of severe anemia.
A show where the queen of the universe herself is constantly raping a poor immigrant construction worker who just wants to feed his family in Brazil.
A show where the main character is constantly humiliated, shot to death, beaten, tortured and abused by the man she loves the most.
A show where a pet dog is constantly running for his life due to the fact that the main characters are so poor, they are always hungry enough to eat him.
Even after watching this the first time when I was 13, there are still times over the years I rewatch Excel Saga and find myself keeled over with laughter like an idiot.
