because of the Rog/Tyrone thread, I've felt the need to state for the record my favourite of all time chinese cartoons. here's an attempted ranking
10. Akagi/Kaiji
While it's not the best work by this mangaka (that goes to Ten: The Nice Guy on the Way to Tenhou), Kaiji is still one of the funnest manga by Fukumoto; Akagi is the side story of the best character from Ten and is a great anime in its own right.. Essentially I'd rank Kaiji and Akagi the same.
9. Free!
The best show about friendship, brotherhood, swimming and various upper body muscle groups ever produced. KyoAni did it again!
Make us freeなSplash! 重ねた光のコントラスト浴びて
Feel so freeな今日 飛び込むオレたちの Brand new blue, yeh
思うように sei! sei! sei! a-oh
自分らしく kick! kick! kick! a-oh
掴みたいんだ pull! pull! pull! a-oh
届きそうな deep! deep! deep! Splash Free
8. Mushishi
This is a very relaxed and beautiful animation. Something about the calmness of this series and it's episodic nature makes it a good show to put on if you want to relax. The manga has been excellent for years, and season 2 is finally getting made.
7. Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
BURE BURE BURE BURE BURE
RUMBA RUMBA RUMBA RUMBA RUMBA
6. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
This series earns a spot more because of the fact that the manga is 25+ years old and still running strong with one of the best stories in manga. There's only been an anime of Part 1 and 2 of 8 parts, but Part 3 is getting adapted soon and promises to be possibly the most popular arc of the series.
JoJo is perfection.
Josuke > Giorno > Joseph > Josuke > Jolyne > Johnny > Jotaro > Johnathan
Also Duwang was the best interpretation of the manga.
5. Mobile Suit Gundam (Universal Century)
0079, Zeta, ZZ and Char's Counterattack all fall under here. Essentially the series that started mecha. And perhaps more importantly than that, the series that started Gundam. No Gundam show has yet to surpass the story of Amuro and Char. Everything from the top quality (at the time) 70s animation, the groovy 70s Japanese music and the coming of age story in it all make this one of the best series ever.
Also Gundam 0079 was the first series to feature Char Aznable, the greatest character in all of anime.
and on that note
4. Evangelion
ZANKOKU NA TENSHI NO YOU NI
SHOUNEN YO SHINWA NI NARE
3. Cardcaptor Sakura
The best traditional mahou shojou anime. Sakura is the queen.
2. Revolutionary Girl Utena
This anime was a post-modern deconstruction of the mahou shoujo genre with lesbian protagonists before Madoka made it cool. It's stylish as hell and has one of the only OSTs I'll actually put on my phone. Kunihiko Ikuhara's masterpiece.
Also every episode has one of these scenes.
1. Legend of the Galactic Heroes
To me this is undisputedly the best anime ever made. A sprawling 110 episode space opera with several skirmishes and wars with gigantic intergalactic fleets. It's not only about the difference between empires and democracies, it's about the 100s of characters in the series; some come in briefly and leave just as fast, some are in the show for long periods.
This is the cast:
It was recently re-released on blu-ray, so there's really no better time to watch it than now.

You'll notice sometimes in a lot of the Rog/Tyrone vids they will have a screencap from this show; that's because pretty much every fan of chinese cartoons has to at the very least recognize this series as a masterpiece.
