I was fired from work a couple of months ago and I feel absolutely devastated. My lawyer has been contacted and I'm planning to take legal action for incorrect dismissal. Below is my story...
I am a lead engineer at a manufacturing firm, and for the past 3 months my team and I (encompassing 15+ employees) have been working on a project to increase efficiency of our manufacturing plant. I have a Master's in Civil Engineering, but the rest of the 20 or so employees on my team are all high-school educated, except for one co-worker... We'll refer to him as David (which is not his real handle). David had his university education in America and he has a PhD in Computer Engineering. He's working under me, and even though I'm the team lead of this project, I'm only making $190,000 per year for my salary, and David, brand new to the company, having put no work in, is already making $180,000 per year for his salary.
For the first two months of our project, I let it go, I didn't mention anything at all, but I hear David always talking to his co-workers about how he loves to go boating, how he has a two-seat sailboat that he uses on long weekends to go sailing with his wife. I asked him how he could afford a boat on his salary, and he told me he has no debt - he used scholarships to pay for all of his schooling, and his wife inherited an ancient property in America, which they sold for a considerable amount of income. So this guy has no debt, his lucky wife was able to buy them a house (which is bigger than mine) using pure liquid cash with no need for any mortgage payments. He doesn't use a car either; David drives a bike to work so that's another set of payments he is not beholden to.
Meanwhile, I have a $415,000 mortgage on my home property (and it's smaller and older than David's property). I also have $1350 per month in car payments (for lease and insurance and gas), and to get my Master's degree I needed to accrue tuition loans exceeding $60,000.
None of this sat well with me at all. I've been at the company for way longer than David, but he's almost making as much money as me. Even worse, he is living WAY more comfortably than me, even though he makes LESS than me. He has no debt, barely any monthly payments, and he can afford a boat. Ugh... So I brought the above concerns to the attention of our company's CEO verbatim (that means word-for-word), and she brushed me off.
I demanded that I get a raise equivalent to the cost of my monthly car, mortgage, and tuition loan payments. That way, it would be as if those monthly costs could simply be erased, and then I would at least be on equal standing with David in terms of disposable income. She told me "too bad." I went to our HR office and filed a formal complaint against my CEO and against David. Then a month went by with no word from the HR office, so I just snapped. I started to loudly insult David loudly in front of everyone at work. The other 15 or so high-school educated members of my team were terrified, but I insisted to them I wasn't going to hurt them or David. I only wanted to let David know how I felt.
Well, long story short, the HR office did not approve of my PERSONAL beef with David. David had his wife submit a formal complaint against me with HR, and within 20 minutes I was fired and escorted off the premises of our company's main factory. It took them 25 minutes to deal with David's complaint but a month went by without a peep about my own HR complaint.
So now I'm out of work with mortgage, tuition loan, and expensive car payments. I unsure of what I should be doing next
