i finally did it. no one in my family ever cared about surround sound and neither did i for some time (or rather, I didn't have the balls to throw down the money for a decent set). but eventually I decided "what's the point of having Godzilla 3D if he's only going to scream in stereo?". Also the speakers on my tv are pretty shit and the sound got muddy as fuck sometimes. you guys have no idea how annoying it was to get this shit into my house here's the model, was on sale at canada computers www.onkyo.ca/Products/model.php?m=HT-S3700&class=Systemscame with a pretty decent receiver too, this is one of the ones set up to handle 4k/60fps for whenever i decide to upgrade my tv i got it all mounted up in the living room now i like how this picture clearly illustrates how torn up my apartment actually is lol god, i had no idea what a fucking difference this stuff made. i don't ever want to leave my living room now, watching movies in 3d with bassy af surround sound is too enjoyable, every time i step into the room when a movie is playing, it literally feels like a theater. i finally understand the home theater craze i had to spend some time to just rewind this scene like 5 different times also L O L the back of my tv looks like this now

Yeah surround sound was always really awesome. If there was a way for me to do it in my room, I totally would. I'm gonna have to come by and check this out at some point.

seriously rewatching godzilla on this thing took me back to the theaters, except you can eat crab legs (or brownies) and smoke weed in my living room. gonna try it on jurassic world, mad max, alien, interstellar and probably the star wars movies too. the truly best thing bluray gave us wasn't 1080p or 3d, it was incredibly clear audio shit is fucking immersive man. i like how this av receiver is set to handle 4k input, cause somewhere down the line i'm gonna throw down the cash for one of those curved 4k 3dtvs (it will eventually go down in price), for now my setup is pretty slick also i bought the ps4 remote because at this point i play video games so little my ps4 is a bluray player/netflix machine. too annoying to constantly get the controller and then have to turn them off/recharge. seriously guys if you're building a home theater, just buy a bluray/4k player to go with your receiver, these remotes absorb this stupid thing can't be programmed to work with my receiver so I've gotta use two remotes lol i do like how i now have a button on the receiver remote that automatically switches to my PC, and another one for the PS4 and the cable box and so on

yeah but i don't want to have to use my phone while i'm on the sofa. that defeats the whole purpose of having a remote that controls everything, plus the ps4 is lame and you basically need to buy a remote for it unless you want to always have the controller in front of you. at this point it's basically just a netflix/spotify/bluray machine for me, barely even play any games besides street fighter, now i just use the remote. the phone can just connect to the receiver with bluetooth for music though

That's a nice looking receiver you've got there. I've been rocking 5.1 for a pretty long while for both home theatre and PC. Surround gaming is a huge difference over stereo and doesn't have the fatiguing and isolation that headphones have. Out of the moderate collection of things I watched, Neon Genesis Evangelion blew my mind the most because I was not expecting something like that to have a 5.1 mix. Hearing the opening theme with parts of the backing accompaniment behind you was pretty fucked.

the rebuild of evangelion movies have pretty intense music and sound effects. jurassic world and house of flying daggers were pretty well mixed too, same with the avengers movies. they make it so blind people could tell where iron man is flying in surround sound.
