Think of this thread as more of a public service announcement for those willing to heed it. One of my most anticipated games of 2020 was the Remake of Final Fantasy VII, which I was hoping would be a mostly loyal adaptation of the first disc of FFVII. Sadly, this is not what the game is at all. In fact, I don't think this was ever what the game was planned to be. This game is instead the first entry in a new series of FFVII games that could potentially span the entire decade.
So considering that I'm assuming everyone on Earth has played the original FFVII and that I'm warning you that this thread has spoilers for the Remake, scroll down below if you're so inclined.
The game is basically Final Fantasy VII.5 HD Remix. So long story short, this entire game is an alternate timeline retelling of the original FFVII, except with Time Ghosts who try to stop the characters from saying or doing anything that goes against the original FFVII Timeline. Oh, and Sephiroth is actually Sephiroth from the future Advent Children timeline who somehow becomes a major part of the game in Midgar, and is the final boss of this game (he flees before Cloud and the gang can defeat him). Oh, and Zack from an alternate universe is somehow detected by Aerith in the Remake universe. Yes, all of this is true, don't believe me? Check it out: youtu.be/-wf_9xaCiM8?t=711
I've made quite a few videos myself discussing this topic, which have all pissed people off immensely. But funnily enough, some people are returning to the videos to apologize when they realize that I'm right.
I honestly don't expect the sequel to this new game to follow the timeline of Final Fantasy VII at all, it will go the Rebuild of Evangelion route and become a completely different beast with very little relation to the original game outside of character and world designs. Also I find it ironic how the "Whispers of Fate" Time Ghosts are essentially there to represent puritanical fans of FFVII who just wanted a mostly loyal remake with better graphics and gameplay mechanics. Honestly speaking after playing the demo and watching people finish the game, I'm not sure if I would even argue this game has better gameplay mechanics, it's a subjective preference.
Basically, I was extremely hyped for this game and was one of those people who would tear up any time watching the original E3 2015 reveal trailer or the reaction videos. Now I suddenly feel no desire to buy the game at all, and would if anything rather wait until the game is $20 on Steam, preferably right before the next game is going to come out. And who knows how much Tetsuya Nomura Kingdom Hearts style retardation will infest that game.
Honestly, I think I might just play the original with mods on Steam for the time being.
