Pike 59 - Ydrapoej - Released 2014 by Buckethead
The 59th installment of the Pikes catalog, Ydrapoej is basically a 30 minute collage of disjointed sounds and ideas. Composed primarily of guitar, bass, digital carnival rides and a drum machine, this is one of those Pikes that makes you envision a day in the life of a Bucketheadland groundskeeper.
ID 1 starts off with a nightmare rendition of the Jeopardy theme, letting you know right off the bat this is gonna be a weird one. This quickly dissolves into a rapid fire assault on the ears, mixing it up between scuttlebug guitar noodling and lightning fast shredding... and thumping heavy metal riffing... and.. uh, noises. All of these parts come together to make something truly unique and wonderful. An excellent display of Buckethead's weirder side.
ID 3 again fades in seamlessly from the end of ID 2, doing more random shit. This one has a bit more riff-like stuff, sounding a bit more like an actual melody rather than just random noise. However, no one riff stays present for more than a few seconds before radically shifting into something else entirely. It's like a musical collage. What's so fascinating is that there's never a dull moment. Every stray thought and sound perfectly fits in with the rest, making something truly fascinating.
ID 4 is pretty much more of the same, with maybe a tad more ambient in between the fuzzy hexagonal shapes and colors of noise.
Another hit or miss Pike depending on what style you prefer. If you want something easy on the ears, this ain't it. But if you like weird, out there, avant-garde for the sake of it noise, this is undoubtedly going to be a fun listen, with all kinds of funky stuff throughout.

ID 2 fades in seamlessly from the end of ID 1, doing more of the same. This one utilizes a bit more abrupt transitions, choppily switching from one idea without anything to fade between. The sounds that come out of Buckethead's guitar here sound like something out of Galaga, if you hooked the Galaga machine up to a nuclear power plant. We also get some brief sections that utilize bass exclusively, which feel like a sticky wade through molasses. Oh and there's a surprisingly beautiful little 15 second section at the end that could fit right into a more mellow track. The complete and utter lack of structure here is what makes it so interesting here.

ID 5-10 follow pretty the same pattern. Each are little slices of a musical collage, with little 5 second bursts of noise [mostly either shredding, random guitar notes, digital effects, or ambient noise created by a mix of the two] coming together to make up 30 minutes of music. Each track uses a slightly different list of techniques, but they all pretty much boil down to the same idea [albeit an entertaining one].
