Well, the Astros have been pretty good lately. Their lineup is rock solid at the top with Gurriel having a league leading year and Yordan continuing his historic start, and only looks to get better at the bottom as Kyle Tucker's bad luck can only go on for so long [77 point difference between avg. and XBA as well as an astoundingly low .180 BABIP point in a good direction]. Maldonado's drastic increase in offensive capabilities is also a nice bonus, especially after his couldn't-be-any-worse start to the season. Our starting pitching is very good as well. We don't exactly have a steady rotation but any of our guys can go out and give us a quality start, which is all we need for a win with our offense. The real problem has been the bullpen, who are questionable at best and downright dreadful at worst. Abreu & Scrubb have potential, but I don't quite trust them yet. I have faith in Stanek & Pressly, and I'm hopeful about Kent Emanuel. Past that, it's a complete mess. Brooks Raley has yet to make an appearance where he doesn't shit the bed, and Joe Smith looks washed. We're gonna have to rely on our starters to get us deep in games, because our bullpen death is less than desirable. One notable positive is the eminent return of a few strong arms, such as Paredes, Valdez and Verlander. Verlander is of course a hall of fame pitcher but his use will likely be limited to a postseason bullpen arm, and not a lot of time to get readjusted to the majors after lengthy time off for TJ surgery. I've been looking into attending some local games as well, which is fun. Considering doing a couple summer road trips to visit further away stadiums with my dad, as well as catching any Astros games when they visit a nearby stadium.
The SM64 speedrun scene has been rather disappointing after a promising start to 2021. Simply's Mario May imploded after several mental breakdowns and days off, and the race for 1:37 seems to be at a halt right now. Cheese's January WR was pretty hype, especially so soon after he started runs, and Batora's 3 second improvement of said WR was great to see, as he's absolutely capable of shaving another 30+ off of it. Not sure where he is though, hasn't streamed in a couple of months as far as I know. Speedrunners just kinda do that sometimes. Puncayshun could get WR if he grinded half as much as any other top runner, but I guess he's too busy collecting hentai figures. 16 Star has been a constant blue ball experience as slipperynip, Weegee and KANNO are all capable of getting the next 14 and WR but all just can't seem to quite close out a run. Weegee is honestly capable of 14:4X but his achilies heel of endgame always screws him over. slip's months long drought without a 14 is getting painful to watch. His 15:00.1 PB is practically a direct message sent from the Mario gods to make fun of him. Really hope he gets it soon.
My progression through the Buckethead Spreadsheet is continuing at the same pace as always. I recently got to the Guest Appearances section, and I've been pleasantly surprised with what I've heard so far. I'm only a few albums in, but I'm really digging all the Bill Laswell Ambient stuff. I'll make sure to check out some more of his work at some point. My current strategy is alternating between listening to Pikes [which I'm currently going through in numerical order for a second time] and going down the spreadsheet in order. My progress on the Buckethead Archive has been a bit slow as of late, but my dedication is still there. A lot of the work I do on there is very repetitive, so I need to take breaks sometimes to keep my sanity. I'm also a lot more mentally exhausted in general so I have less energy for grinding stuff. On an unrelated note I'm also excited for Billie Eilish's upcoming album because I've enjoyed her previous work and she seems like a really cool person. I recently ordered a vinyl and some other merch from the recent Cloud Hills Mars Volta merch drop, which is super exciting because all the merch from when they were initially active is impossible to get unless you've got a few hundred dollars you want to spend on an eBay concert poster.
