Well I finally decided to see what all the fuss was about. Real footage of me holding up a VR headset in its case like it's a fish I caught Honestly really well designed case. Nice and firmly molded. Fits the headset with the controllers perfectly along with the battery extension headstrap. You basically need a headstrap for this thing, whether you go third party or not is up to you but it's horribly uncomfortable without something bracing the back of your head. Although as you can see, no wires. I also enjoy the freedom of being able to move freely between my desk, a set play area or move onto the sofa with a sofa rendered in its place in the VR home. Bought a few games, Half-Life: Alyx, Project Wingman, Superhot VR, Pavlov, Rez Infinite, Singularity 5, already had Project Cars 2 and Zone of the Enders 2. I did buy the official Oculus tether which I'll try out when it arrives, but I am honestly shocked by how well Air Link works. I am running Half-Life: Alyx just fine over Wi-fi with no wires at all. I am sure tethering will work better but stills it's astounding how well the game works wirelessly streaming over Wi-Fi. Might upgrade my router. Still prefer traditional games for sure, this can be pretty disorienting and strange at times. Still some pretty cool stuff they can do. Well future, here I am.

After a couple days of using this I think it's pretty damn cool, but at the same time it still has a ton of limitations. The Air Link is so shoddy with my current wi-fi setup I'd rather not even try it anymore until I've fully upgraded my internet and gotten one of those rat king routers. I said it works great on my first try, but then other times the quality suddenly drops, if you want a reliable experience you need the Link Cable. Maybe on an ideal setup it works but at least how it is now there's just way too much input lag and delay for it not to bother me. Configuring games to work in 120Hz mode seems very hit or miss, some games support it some don't. The fact that the Quest 2 acts as a standalone machine and lets you install games onto it is a huge boon. The only thing is there are not that many games on this oculus store I even want to buy, and even less that are actually configured to run standalone from the Quest 2 itself. The vast majority of actually demanding games all seem to want you to use the link cable (which was over $100, first thing I ever used the USB-C port on Kinoberus for) and run it from either rift or steamvr. This has made me appreciate the fact that something like Eleven Table Tennis can be installed by itself, played with no wires, and in fact be played literally everywhere. The Quest 2 really is like the Nintendo Switch for VR in this sense. Library is very very small so there's not even much to take up room on the little 64GB ssd. I figured 64gb would be enough for mostly using it with SteamVR, there's not even that many games I want to buy. Having to deal with a cable when playing these bigger games is an annoyance that kind of dampens the experience. I really do want to see if a heavy upgrade to my wifi setup will make playing wirelessly with Air Link viable or if there's some better means to make wireless gameplay of something like Alyx work.
All in all this VR stuff is pretty cool and I just blew a load of money on it, but all things considered I will probably use this very sparingly and just go back to playing Guilty Gear Strive. There are some cool very specific types of games that take advantage of this VR tech but I just strongly prefer traditional games, it's nice to have the option to play VR titles if I like though. I imagine it will be a very long time before titles like Alyx being developed for VR becomes commonplace. I appreciate the blindfoldedness of the VR headset making me feel a little bit more like Zato every time I put it on.

It seems my impeccably perfect timing has struck once more. I actually managed to buy a Quest 2 the day before the entire product line was recalled due to a problem with allergens in the facepad foam. I didn't notice anything, already had a silicon pad purchased to add onto the headset. But once again I managed to buy something just before it sold out completely or became price inflated and/or became impossible to obtain. I should have bought a PS5 just to spite all the people obsessed with it even though I don't want one at all. Not to mention Oculus gave everyone free covers. That's pretty cool of them. This is sort of hilarious, literally a few days ago I was buying everything for my Quest 2 on this page and now they're not even selling the headsets or the fit pack at all.

fasjkfhasduilfjasipdufnasduifnasjknfjksdhfasjfnjsdlkfj OK holy fucking jesus Project Wingman kicks ass. Ironically it's just using VR to view while still using a gamepad but good jesus christ. That shit was incredible. Any doubts I had about this being worth it are gone, just for that game alone. Holy shit. After going through all of Ace Combat and then playing Project Wingman and actually being able to fucking see properly... I felt like a fucking god. This is seriously how fighter pilots feel? Talk about best job on the fucking planet. I give in to the Zuck. He is our new messiah. Guided by him Oculus will dominate the VR market, Quest 2 Pro and Quest 3 will be incredible, I'll buy the highest end Quest 3 day 1. There's a ton of cool shit the Oculus store is doing now switching the OpenXR over time, giving developers a ton of tools like using the Pass Through for mixed reality, tons of cool shit in the App Lab. Tennis League VR is free and it's goddamn fun as hell. I'm literally running up and down my apartment pretending it's a tennis court and getting a genuine cardio workout from this. You could just run outside and turn your parking lot into a tennis court if you don't mind looking autistic as fuck with a headset outside. Fuck I could probably drive with this thing on but I'm not that retarded. As Chris Rock would say, you can drive with your feet. I seriously think Oculus is the way to go for VR just based on all the cool shit the company is doing. I can fully walk around my house, drink water, smoke weed, take a piss, get a drink from the fridge, without ever taking the headset off. I am now a VR shill. And no I will not play VRChat, that is literally medical treatment for gender dysphoria and nothing else. I tried to actually find people on 4chan who were into VR and was horribly disappointed to find that the VR generals are just entirely centered around men dating other men while pretending to be anime girls in VRChat. Not my jam. I will stick to playing sports games wirelessly on the Quest standalone and running those heavy VR games with the link cable from Kinoberus. Good fucking god Project Wingman just completely switched me from "Eh, this is ok I guess" to "this is the greatest thing I've ever spent money on". I am now a full blown Oculus shill, serving my God Mark Zuckerberg every single day. Thank you based Zuck.

I mean Omniman with the Quest 2 is cute and all but this meme will only become true in the future when the Quest 3 drops and you have a rat king router that costs at least $200 with Wi-Fi 6 enabled. Unironically I have been windowshopping some of these overpowered fucking routers, the prospect of legitimately playing a game like Alyx or Project Wingman with proper latency, 120+ fps and no wires, better FOV than the Quest 2 has.. I thought buying a VR headset would be the end of my journey to have the perfect gaming setup. An OLED TV, a 4k 144Hz desk monitor, a 3090, I thought a VR headset was the last part. But now I realize I will need an overpowered router and to wait for the Quest 3 in 2023 or whatever for the true VR experience to come through. For now though this is pretty cool. Table tennis is fucking hard!

You know, I'm starting to think VR gaming might not be for me. Just call me Slick Mick baby. Apparently Neo likes the Oculus Meta Quest 2 a lot in the new Matrix movie. Can't wait to watch it in IMAX, at least as much of it as I can see with only one eye.
