Lord Bezos-sama... I kneel.
It's hard to even explain how hard it is to face the reality that this movie even exists now. I watched End of Eva when I was 14, almost 30 now. I remember watching Rebuild of Evangelion part 1 from a shitty camrip in 2007. George Bush was President of the United States, I was in Grade 11. This was shortly after I went on a family trip to Japan, I was at the peak of my weebism. I had a picture of myself on Mount Fuji with long fucked up hair. It was some pretty good times. I remember reading a manga called Multiple Personality Detective Psycho where a mass shooter stood on a building killing people and taking calls from random people. Some guy called him to talk about Evangelion, and there was actually a part where the character wished out loud that Anno would remake the series. It has taken such a long time to get to this point, I have unironically waited more than 50% of my life for this film to come out. At one point this film was slated for a simultaneous release with Rebuild of Evangelion 3.0 in December of 2009 or something. I'm not even sure if more people even remember those tentative release slatings we were initially given. I am partially terrified to watch the film. I preemptively accept that there is absolutely no way, this film can ever live up to my personal expectations for it. There is no way this film can be everything I wanted it to be. There is no way it could replace End of Evangelion, but it could be something else that I might enjoy as much as End of Evangelion. Regardless I am going to take the plunge and finally watch this film. Feel free to leaves your thoughts, comments and reviews of the film in the thread. It's taken a long time but we're finally at the finish line. Oh, and of course I have already had the entire film spoiled for me. As usual, I am 100% certain this will in no way affect my appreciation or lack thereof of the film, because it never does for any film. Films that stop being good just because you got them spoiled were never really good. Still, I'm brutally excited to actually watch this film and finally get it out of my system.

God Bless Hideaki Anno
So let me just be clear I am only like 13 minutes deep into this film but already I can read the room on this one. Anno, in all his divine glory, has done what is right. Fuck what everyone says, Mari is fucking based and the best girl in the series so far. Asuka and Rei fags get fucked. Even the Kaworutards can eat a bag of dicks. Mari wins the Shinji Cup with flying colours. Talk about kino and /fa/ with the "Don't Run Away" shirt.
The animation and use of music has never been better, and for a series like Evangelion that's saying something. I can already sense the themes of Shinji finally putting aside the shackles of being a mecha anime protagonist, moving past his mommy/daddy issues and becoming an actual man. I'd just like to state that I already love the film immensely just from this ridiculous opening sequence (that I already watched, but not in this good quality) of the Eiffel Tower being used as a lethal weapon.
I now understand that Anno had to force himself to reach his own spiritual peace before he was able to make the film. This is not something that can be forced out of a person. Thus it makes perfect sense that it took as long as it did for us to finally reach this final film. The wait already feels worthwhile.

Man I am just digging this product placement. Panasonic, Komatsu, Hitachi construction gear. The CGI animation is just completely on point here, one of the best animated films ever made easily. Honestly I am about an hour deep into this film and I gotta say... I am missing big daddy Gendo. Anno-sensei must have kept Gendo's debut in this film for a special purpose, I'm excited.
Daddy's home, kiddo. And it's time to get in the motherfucking robot.

I would just like to state that 1:21:57 is the exact timestamp within the film in which the Kino Barrier is crossed and the film becomes absolute fucking kino of the most paramount order. I've already realized that Anno now in his more mature years is at the top of his craft. Arguably a better director than he ever has been.
This right here is like the Buddhist Palm from Kung Fu Hustle on PCP spiked with steroids. When that doubleslap comes through.
>hair grows down to waistline >fringe is still the same length
This is why Anno has always been a hack.
The journey begun in the beginning of Evangelion over 25 years ago has all lead up to this. I have been following Anno's journey as director of this series for 15 years now, I can see how he has grown as a creator, learned from working on Shin Godzilla and other projects until he knew he was ready to finally end Evangelion for good. I cannot overstate how difficult it is for me to finish watching this film, because I know this is it. The kino barrier has been crossed, we're now going on to the last hour. Anno isn't going to leave us with many loose ends, everything's getting tied up for good. I am so nervous but I know I have to finish the film.

OK first impression is this film is not as good as End of Evangelion. It's a good film but it will not have the lasting cultural impact that End of Eva still has to this day. A satisfying conclusion to the Evangelion series, and Anno himself symbolically letting go of the series once and for all. There will never be another Evangelion film or series, barring a god awful Netflix series that's probably already cooking. Secondly
Me on the left, on the right are all the people I've been arguing with for the last 15 years trying to convince people that the Rebuild series wasn't a sequel to End of Eva. Finally I can enjoy the sound of these people being quiet, once and for all.
Thirdly, I burst out laughing during the ending sequence of this film several times, probably one third of the time due to this fucking thing.
Me every time this fucked up thing showed up on the screen.
Like I understand he's trying to go for "Evangelion Imaginary is bizarre because it's a melding of reality and animation" but it honestly just made me start laughing half the time I saw it.
Me as a teen trying to convince my family that Evangelion isn't contrived horseshit and knowing deep down inside that my mom and sister are right.
Japan really enjoys this trope involving three brilliant scientists, two of whom who fall in love, all ending up accidentally somehow ending the world as we know it, destroying the woman into the abyss of eternity in the process. Seriously, a lot of Japanese series use it and I am always curious how they thought of it. Or maybe Guilty Gear just hamfistedly copied Evangelion but used Gendo as the protagonist. Sol Dadguy also felt the pain of losing his waifu, and was also everyone's dad.
Gotta say I really enjoyed the forcefeeding. Shinji being a sad faggot has been old for like 2 decades now, it was nice to see Asuka force some sense into his esophagus.
Too bad we never got the comfy Gendo and Yui home life alternate timeline where Shinji's life wasn't shit. But at least Gendo finally got to create a new world with his waifu and his son in the end.
This whole fucking series and finally this movie is filled with daddy issues galore. I like that we finally get to see exactly what kind of person Gendo was: basically a loner autist who got lucky enough to meet Yui and have a family. And then was just too completely destroyed after she died to try and move on and instead became hellbent on getting her back. He seems even more beta as a teen than Shinji from what is shown of him. If you aren't willing to abandon your humanity, ascened to godhood and rebuild the universe to be with your waifu, I question whether you ever deserved your waifu in the first place.
I did like his god mode form and his final duel with Shinji. It felt like the series did need an actual duel between the two of them so it was nice to finally see it happen.
All in all it was a nice conclusion, feels like the final message is one of optimism even in the face of certain doom. I think Anno has grown a lot as a person and it shows in his work. I think the film is a little long winded, many times I was pausing to check how much runtime was left. Just dragged on at points. But overall a good work. I shudder to imagine how goddamn long the final cut Evangelion 3.33+1.11 runtime will be. Probably like 3 hours or more.
Anyways I think I am done. There is just nothing left for me to even look forward to with anime anymore.
I have been waiting for this film for so long. So much time has passed. I don't think I enjoy anime and Japanese culture as much as I used to. This was a really great sendoff for the Evangelion franchise. But I think besides a couple exceptions I am done with anime. It's completely over. I try to look at anime coming out now and basically nothing even excites or interests me. Maybe I'll watch that new Dragon Ball movie but that's it. I cannot be assed to sit down and watch fucking cartoons for several hours at this point in my life. I am a grown ass man and just don't have time for this shit anymore. Good movie Anno, get some rest and move on to something new, hopefully live action.

When you're a 50 year old pedophile trapped in the body of a 14 year old girl and just happen to love sniffing the teenaged boys you slowly groom into becoming your husbando.
Seriously Japan is a nation of goddamned pedos and fujos.
Like you gotta think several people at Studio Khara are like "Yeah we're going to have a 14 year old girl basically half naked for the majority of the film then put this shot in right at the end."
It's like as a consumer you are forced to choose between the rampant censorship, Chinese kowtowing and lack of sexuality in Western media, or you are forced to embrace the absolute and rampant sexualization of teenagers from the East. I think the main moral of Evangelion is, never trust a half-kraut bitch. The End.
I mean people criticized Misato for years but she was not straight up sniffing a teenaged boy like he was a piece of meat.
Holy shit, so apparently the entire point of Evangelion was Anno C O P I N G with have a microdick? And apparently Shinji and Gendo are dicklets too? Damn, suddenly so many things about this show make sense to me now. The entire censorship scene with Misato and Shinji, it all makes sense. Shinji was a dicklet all along.

Unbelievable, based and truthpilled. The God Anno himself admits himself that he is a hack. Never thought I'd see the day...
I highly recommend the documentary "Hideaki Anno: The Final Challenge of Evangelion" available now exclusively on Amazon Prime Video™. Details the absolute personal hell that Anno had to drive himself and everyone on his team through in order to finish the series. I am honestly so glad it's over. Now Anno can use his talent on something other than Evangelion and leave it finally in the past. I wonder what new master works the God Anno will create next.
