Seriously, Final Fantasy is just like Star Wars. This series started with VI just like how Star Wars started with Episode IV.
Honestly I have no idea why anybody in their right minds would be fans of the terrible ass first five games. I completely understand why they originally marketed VI as Final Fantasy III in the West: they were fucking embarassed by III, IV and V.
The first two games are literally Squaresoft just figuring out how to make an RPG. The third through fifth games are them attempting (very poorly) to tell some kind of story.
And no, I've never played any of these games. And I never will. I mean just look at this fuckery:
This is your final boss? This looks like the dump I just took. Even the music is mediocre. Generic ass characters.
Everything from the boss battle to the music to the final cutscene is lame as fuck. This shit is embarassing. Squaresoft was embarrassed to try and sell this game to Westerners.
Alright forget about all that bullshit and just look at this fucking title screen:
Any human being who isn't mentally challenged will instinctively and immediately know, upon seeing and hearing this title screen, that they're about to play one of the greatest games ever made.
And this final boss man... fuck...
Everything from the characters declaring that they've all found hope in a hopeless world, Kefka literally being the JRPG version of the Joker (never been matched btw), Dancing Mad being arguably the greatest piece of video game music ever composed, that ending with Terra letting her hair blow in the wind as the world rebuilds itself. Absolute fucking S O V L of the highest caliber.
How in the fuck did this game come after the shitpiles that are FF I through V? How? It's like Squaresoft birthed 5 mentally retarded, deformed children, and then right after they birthed Michael fucking Jordan.
Honestly it's one of the fucking miracles of gaming itself, that from a series that started with these five mediocre ass entries, we got arguably the greatest JRPG ever made, Final Fantasy VI.
There is a stark and sharp change in quality of this series starting from VI. The series actually became legendary because of VI and VII. Even now, the series will never hit those heights. After the Enix merger Square lost their soul. Think about it: Final Fantasy VI through X are all highly regarded classics. Then they put out some bullshit with X-2. XII and XIII were alright but they weren't legendary like VI through X. XV was a deeply flawed game but still kinda fun, doesn't live up to the legendary games in this franchise.
Seriously everything from the title screen to the end credits of this game is legendary.
