I need a bigger laptop. This thing is just way too fucking tiny. I also need a 9 cell though, one of these days I'll find myself the money.

The battery life on an HDX Dragon with its 9 cell battery is a bit less than two hours. Using it for its intended purpose drops this figure significantly. A W700ds with a 9 cell goes for 1:46 with light computing tasks, which is not what you want to use it for. Expect 30 minutes if you did real shit on it.
Desktop replacements and workstations do not benefit from high capacity batteries. :<

I don't actually recall what the old battery life was like when I got it, but it was definitely longer than this (reviews say it's around 3 hours, which is fine by me). And I'm not going to buy any of those fucking laptops, do I look like I have several thousands of dollars to kill? At best I'd like something with a 9 cell as well as the efficiency of something like this, perhaps with more computing power to it. I don't like how little this laptop can do, the graphics card is really garbage on it and while the dual AMD processors are nice, I could use more RAM since there are times when I nearly run out. I realize I'm getting a little idealistic here, but while this screen is ok, bigger would be better; I hate the graphics card on this laptop the most.

Used ThinkPad X41s typically go for $400.
Notebook graphics generally tend to absorb cock unless you move into the serious desktop replacement and workstation class. T500s pack Mobility Radeon HD 3650s at $1,309 though, which isn't bad. Certainly not the Crysis-playing beast the W700 is though. Other brands probably have similar deals.
Your X1200 could play Portal okay, although I forgot what settings I played it.
EDIT: 17" Dell Studios go for $1,099 with the same discrete GPU, but the T500's based on newer technology with its 1066 MHz FSB and DDR3 SDRAM. A $300 drop on a T500's pretty cool though.

The MacBook Air and Adamo are too stripped to be of any use to me. The MacBook Air lacks ports, the Adamo lacks power, and both have non-replaceable batteries. The Pentium M in my T42 is actually significantly faster than the 1.2 GHz Core 2 Duo SU9300 in the Adamo, which barely edges out an Atom. At least the MacBook Air has 1.6 GHz and the GeForce 9400M going for it, although the lack of connections is pretty bad.
I'd rather carry a ThinkPad X300 with me.

Pretty much the only thing that sounds good to me about the Macbook Air is the video card (considering the size of it). It just seems like another stupid product that Apple put out just to demonstrate what they're capable of doing, designed to be purchased by stupid people who are just in it for the gimmick. It has almost no ports, no CD drive, and if you are buying a Macbook you could just get one with a larger battery, faster processor, more ports, a CD drive, a larger hard drive, the aluminum case and possibly more RAM at a cheaper price than you would for a Macbook Air.

My god you've just described the Air AND the Ipod shuffle Apple has started to become more style than function. They're moniker of "so small and simple it's retarded" (which has worked well before) is tarting to fail them. The new shuffle is so small your cat can eat it without even noticing. And the Air...sit on it and there goes 3000 dollars. And it's not just apple either. Alot of computer/phone are trying to eliminate as many buttons as possible . I'm still a fan of ports and buttons myself; a touchscreen still feels uncompfortable in phone scenario (LG chocolate 2 anyone?)

I found the new shuffle to be a huge leap in functionality, but it also locks you in with their mediocre earbuds. $99 isn't exactly budget either.
The MacBook Air was Apple's first use of an aluminium unibody, rofl. It's pretty senseless though considering a standard MacBook could practically be considered an ultraportable. The difference is only 0.19" in thickness and 1.5 lbs in weight. The Adamo's just as much a novelty with it's utter lack of specs. The ThinkPad X301 isn't much faster, but makes it up immensely with usability, practicality and expandability. If there's one thing an ultraportable needs to have, it's a replaceable battery. The whole point of an ultraportable is that you can bring it everywhere with you. You're going to be running the battery up and down constantly, so you should be able to hot swap and replace the thing.
Performance-wise, based on the processor, Pretty much every other modern laptop > MacBook Air > ThinkPad X301 > ThinkPad T42 > Adamo = ASUS Eee PC 1000H
and based on graphics, MacBook Air > typical modern laptops = ThinkPad X301 = Adamo = ThinkPad T42 (minus shaders) > ASUS Eee PC 1000H
and on memory clock speeds, since they all have 2 GB as an option, Higher-end laptops = MacBook Air = ThinkPad X301 > lower-end laptops = Adamo > ASUS Eee PC 1000H > ThinkPad T42
They're all expensive as fuck. :<
