Well, it's over my friends. Sony won. Pack it up, the console war is finished. It's like 2013 all over again. Get your $700-$800 ready, November is just around the corner. The reveal event had a lot of indie shit and less interesting games, but the games that were intriguing looked fucking sick. If I may be the first to say it *ahem*, looks like kino is back on the menu boys. Of course, PC is still the one true, prime master race that be, but these Sony exclusive titles are going to make people pull their wallets out. Also I'm kind of a fan of the new slogan, "Play Has No Limits". Sony marketers are the true GOATs. This game I'm pretty sure almost everyone here will get eventually. I'm not even gonna lie to you guys, I'm a massive stan for Brian Michael Bendis and the entire Miles Morales universe. I think I've read damn near every comic starring Miles. Into the Spider-verse became my favourite comic book movie ever right beside The Dark Knight and Joker, all three films capture something about comic books I really love. So to see this game get made and to finally play as Miles, the FULL Miles complete with Venom Strike and Cloaking abilities after all these years of wishing for it to happen is pretty fucking great. Just give me the PS5 digital edition with Miles black suit pattern all over it, I am fucking down. ' Horizon Zero Dawn was pretty great, one of those rare moments in gaming where cinematic presentation, great gameplay and a truly original and intriguing story and world all came together in one game. I've been hyped for part 2 since 2017. That dilapidated San Francisco along with the new Dinobots has me convinced that this game will deliver. Also, possibly best graphics ever in a console game? I've kept hearing for fucking years about how Demon's Souls is supposedly better than Dark Souls and Bloodborne, glad to finally have a chance to actually try the game now. Also, can we get a Bloodborne port to either PC or PS5? I gave up on the game because 20 fps fucking absorbs. Honestly on this one I have to give the Sony engineers their due credit. I was laughing off all their claims about how innovative the SSD was and how it would give game developers the type of tools to create worlds and phenomena in games they never had been able to do before. If this trailer is anything like the final product and this is the kind of technical feat we can expect from the PS5, they might have just proven the SSD's worth. Just look at how entirely different levels are rapidly rendered in real time as they travel through the portal.

PS5 looks like it's going to be amazing. PC is finally going to be the one holding back the gaming industry.

PS5 looks like it's going to be amazing. PC is finally going to be the one holding back the gaming industry. I wouldn't go that far. Give PC components a year or two and they will surpass pretty much everything these new consoles will offer, even affordability. If the 3080 Ti is actually 21 Tflops, neither of these consoles come even close. PS5 is either 9 or 10 Tflops depending who you ask, Xbox Series X is 12 Tflops. The NVMe SSD is pretty nice on the PS5, but as its always been, the real reason to ever buy a console is always the exclusive games. Sony actually puts a lot of effort into 1st party games and it shows.

the real reason to ever buy a console is always the exclusive games. I might honestly buy a PS5 just for Gran Turismo 7, so yes. The SSD is really the highlight of the new console not just because it's fast as shit but because it means developers no longer have to bother with long corridors or elevator rides that exist just to load the next section of a level and other bullshit like that which was necessitated by the slow read times of the previous generation consoles and their mechanical storage. The new Ratchet game looks like it was deliberately made to exploit the new storage medium but goddamn if it isn't impressive. The console is really just modern PC tier shit (literally a Ryzen 7 3700X, next gen AMD RDNA 2 GPU and fast PCIe storage that will be bested by the Samsung 980 PRO when it comes out in two months) just like the PS4 was on its launch but the jump to solid state storage is honestly the biggest leap of this generation and alone makes this leap more noteworthy than the jump from PS3 to PS4 was. Kuldeep's comment does bare some weight because of this because while PC storage is currently very close and will soon best the PS5 before it even launches, it's not like everyone's gonna be running an expensive ass Samsung NVMe drive as their game drive, and as such developers are gonna have to treat PC as the back marker for cross platform development simply because of the storage wildcard. Like how the fuck would a game with no loading screens run on a mechanical hard drive rofl.

Damn, that perspective from the game developer's point of view honestly makes a lot of fucking sense and it will impact PC games versus PS5 games. I think for the kind of games I prefer where it's usually a much more fast paced action game, it will require less use of very fast hard drive speeds; though it is of course convenient. But you're right, a pc game developer couldn't just make a game like the PS5's Ratchet game on PC because the vast majority of users couldn't run it. With PS5 they have the security of knowing everyone has those base SSD speeds. Although still, in my mind I feel like mainly Sony's first party developers will truly make use of the NVMe drive to its full extent, most devs will still simply want to have the game work on the Series X as well. Since that also uses an NVMe, maybe devs will set its speed as the baseline standard for multiplat game development.
The true redpill of the PC """Master Race""" is that most PC gamers are broke ass yuropoors who only use their hand-me-down shitbox to run CS:Go. Guys like us are honestly the exception to the rule. I think the best case scenario is, most multiplat games that come to pc will be designed with the assumption that most PC gamers are at least using an SSD, if not an NVMe as it becomes more commonplace. Basically I had a hard realization with Modern Warfare: I couldn't continue using my ancient shitbox from the college days anymore, even with a 1070, because it was just such a piece of trash I'd never be able to even enjoy the game on it. The CPU and RAM just couldn't keep up. I had to build Kinoberus to be able to run the game properly. I think as more multiplats get ported to PC using the Series X and PS5 as baseline design standards, more and more PC gamers will realize that they can't use their shitbox to run these new games and have to build something better, probably with an NVMe. In time the issue you are thinking of will resolve itself as PC builds modernize, at least I hope so.
Meanwhile in the land of consoletards, these people seem vehemently convinced that the single most important feature of the PS5 is the fact that it has a disc drive.

For me it's just the exclusive games and the tech advancement that will end up benefiting all platforms.

For me it's just the exclusive games and the tech advancement that will end up benefiting all platforms. what are you talking about. the most important feature is the disc drive. at least it is if you listen to the swathes of sony fanboys. real question: does anyone here on XF buy physical games anymore? I bought them for a time when Amazon was offering a 20% preorder bonus, but once they cut that shit out I started buying digital completely and even sold all my physical games to rebuy them digitally cheaper or on pc. i realized after a certain point i legitimately regretted buying physical games cause it was fucking stupid, even with the Amazon discount.

I still occaisonally buy physical disks for the PS4. This is mainly because I've been too lazy to expand the storage on it. (Same with my Switch) Both consoles I have probably half digital, half physical. Next gen it'll most likely be almost entirely digital.

I don't know the last time I've bought a physical PC game, I don't know if it's even possible anymore. Like I assume it'd have to be on a USB drive because who the fuck has an optical drive anymore?
I think the last game purchase I made on PS4 was Tetris Effect which was digital. I rarely buy PS4 games unless they're exclusive or whatever.

Fucking soyboy. Is this a picture of you Daryl? In all seriousness, the Switch is easily the worst platform ever to buy physical games for. The main selling point isn't the shitty framerates and resolutions, or the Joy-Cons or waiting 15 years for Metroid Prime 4 and Shin Megami Tensei V. It's main selling point is portability. So why ever buy physical games. Shit man, I unironically have like 45 games on my Nintendo Switch, all digital, I can take them with me anywhere and switching games is as easy as clicking the home button and the icon of whatever I want to play. Seriously, the fucking cartridge only has 32GB, I have like 4 games bigger than that. Guess you just can't reason with physcucks.
